A group of 27 LIL students and 4 staff, along with 15 students from other schools in Auckland, had a fantastic weekend learning about Maori culture while staying on a Marae outside Whangarei. As well as sleeping on matresses on the marae floor, they learned flax weaving, the haka, woodcarving and how to make poi. Dinner was an authentic Maori hangi (food cooked in an earth oven.) Students are already looking forward to the next trip.
