Yummy food to die for!

Written by: Martina, an FCE student at Languages International

Eat me… if you can (Strawberry face)

Do you have problems with choosing places to eat? Here are some options where you can eat nice, cheap and delicious food:

Domino’s:
In this pizza fast-food corner you can have very good pizzas and fresh oven-baked sandwiches. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, the meals are only $5.90. You can find it in Elliott Street. The pizzas have a taste similar to original Italian ones. The oven-baked sandwiches are very delicious, because they are freshly made.

Katsubi Sushi:
In this take-away you can enjoy very delicious Japanese food called Donburi. It’s made with rice, different salads, dressing and meat. This meal is about $10.50. You can find it in High Street. The first time I saw them making this, I thought it wouldn’t be that nice, but it’s some of the best food I’ve ever eaten.

Noodle Shop:
If you want to save money, then it’s a really good idea to have some noodles. The noodles are only between $1 and $4 and they’re quite nice. You’ll find a shop in Lorne Street.  The taste compared to the price is worth it.

I hope this article helps you to choose your perfect food for the day.

Where can you see the best Christmas lights in Auckland? Franklin Road

Written by: Hannah Robinson at Languages International.

Franklin Road - Auckland

Every year almost all the houses on Franklin Road in Freeman's Bay are decorated with lots and lots of Christmas lights. It has become very popular to go for a walk down this street in the couple of weeks leading up to Christmas to soak up the Christmas atmosphere. If this is your first Christmas in Auckland, it is definitely worth going along to have a look. Expect to see lots of people there. The lights have become so popular that there are now people selling snacks and glow sticks on the street.

When to go
After dark (of course) during the couple of weeks before Christmas.

How to get there
Freeman's Bay is in Central Auckland and is easy to get to. Just catch a bus to the corner of Ponsonby Road and Franklin Road and walk down, or if you are feeling like a bit of exercise, bus to the corner of Victoria Street and Franklin Road and walk up. Ponsonby Road is full of bars, restaurants and cafés, so you could go for dinner first while you wait for it to get dark.

The map below shows where Franklin Road is in relation to the school. (You may need to click the "-" button to zoom out and see the 2 places more clearly.)

If you are going there from school, catch The Link Bus. If you are leaving from somewhere else go to www.maxx.co.nz to find the best bus route and schedule. Don't drive down Franklin Road during this time because you'll get stuck in a traffic jam - the rest of Auckland will be there to see the lights too.

Congratulations to Languages International’s latest published author!

Last week, friends and colleagues came together at Languages International in Auckland to celebrate the publication of Teacher Training Essentials by Craig Thaine, our Director of Teacher Training. This collection of photocopiable activities for teacher training workshops is published by Cambridge University Press and will be an important and very popular addition to the staff libraries of language schools and departments throughout the world. The book reflects the wealth of expertise and experience that Craig has contributed to CELTA and DELTA courses at Languages International and ultimately in many other institutions. It was great to see so many good friends from the Auckland English language teaching industry here to pay tribute to Craig’s efforts, and we wish him lots of success with this latest publication, one of a number published by Languages International staff members.
