L.I.nk Love - new articles about NZ from around the web
This week CNN's Destination Adventure series looks at New Zealand. They have some stunning photos. If you are not already in NZ, they'll make you wish you were. If you're here now, they'll make you want to see as much of the country as you can. They also give some advice on several places to visit in New Zealand. (Thanks to @NZGlobal for this link.)
Also on CNN, New Zealand's Lake Matheson is named as one of the top 12 most beautiful lakes in the world. This South Island lake is also known as the "Mirror Lake" because you can see the reflections of Mount Cook and Mount Tasman in the water.
Landloper's Matt Long blogs about his visit to Rotorua's Polynesian Spa.
If you like cycling, you may be interested in this article in the New Zealand Herald about seeing Tauranga by bike. It is a great way to spend a weekend. The Herald also has a list of 5 of the best "out of town" bike rides.

What's on this week? (22 - 26 August 2011)
Here's what Languages International students can do on the Social Programme this week (22 - 26 August 2011.)
In Auckland, you can go play pool or go tenpin bowling, and on Thursday afternoon there is a trip to Piha. Piha is a must-visit west coast beach. It's New Zealand's best-known surf beach. If you have never seen black sand, this is your chance. We leave school at 2pm and arrive back here at about 6.30pm. The trip only costs $25, and it is a great way to see Piha. (It's located 40 kilometers west of Auckland, and unless you have a car, it is not very convenient to get to on your own.) Book at reception, and be quick because we can only take a maximum of 30 students.
This weekend, there are trips to The Bay of Islands, Waitomo & Hobbiton and to go skiing/snowboarding or surfing. See
this week's Social Programme activities for Auckland.
In Christchurch, you can see a movie, play table tennis and go out for dinner at a local restaurant. And why not try something new? On Thursday, you can cha-cha-cha! There will be a dance class at school where you can learn the Cha Cha - no experience necessary! The Cha Cha is lots of fun, so come along and give it a go. See
this week's Social Programme activities for Christchurch.

Rare Kaka photographed in Albert Park
This beautiful bird is a Kaka. It is native to New Zealand. The Kaka is is very rare, so we were surprised to find this one living in Central Auckland. It seems to have made its home just outside Languages International in Albert Park. One of our teachers, Tom, saw the bird last year and reported it to KakaWatchNZ.org. Languages International staff only saw the bird a couple of times last year, but this year there have been lots of sightings. A few days ago, Andrew McIntyre from our Accounts Department took this fabulous photo of the Kaka.
Have you seen any interesting birds in Albert Park?

How brave are you?
Every winter mad Aucklanders go for an ice cold swim at Mission Bay. The Winter Splash event is organised by the Auckland City Council, and plenty of brave souls participate.
This year the Splash takes place on 21 August between 10am and 1pm. It should be lots of fun. There will be roaming street performers and other entertainment, and participants are being encouraged to dress up in circus costumes.
Go along and see what's happening, and if you are really tough, join in and go for a swim!
Details are here.
It will be cold, but at least it won't be this cold!
